The Mediterranean line. Die mediterrane Linie.
The Levant is the old name for the eastern Mediterranean — the coast where the hammam towel was woven long before the terry loom existed. Flat-woven instead of looped: it folds to a third of the bulk, dries in a fraction of the time, and looks like somewhere rather than anywhere. Levante ist der alte Name für das östliche Mittelmeer — jene Küste, an der das Hamamtuch schon lange vor dem Frottierwebstuhl gewebt wurde. Flach gewebt statt geschlungen: ein Drittel des Volumens, ein Bruchteil der Trockenzeit, und es sieht nach einem Ort aus statt nach irgendwo.
